In Memory of Donald E. Pray (1932–2025)
With deep sadness, we share that our founding partner, Donald E. Pray, passed away on Monday, May 26, 2025. Don’s vision, integrity, and enduring commitment to excellence shaped not only Pray Walker but also the broader legal and philanthropic communities across Oklahoma and beyond.
Don came from humble beginnings in Sand Springs, Oklahoma. His drive for education and service led him to degrees in petroleum engineering and law, and eventually to the founding of our firm, where he served as managing partner for many years. He was known for his steady leadership, high standards, and genuine investment in mentoring generations of attorneys—many of whom still walk our halls today. Don’s imprint on our firm is indelible; his belief in hard work, ethical practice, and client-centered service became foundational to our identity.
In 1993, Don left the firm to lead the Donald W. Reynolds Foundation, where he continued to make a profound impact. Under his guidance, the Reynolds Foundation expanded its support of medical care, education, and cultural institutions across the country. He also gave back in countless ways through board service to organizations such as the University of Tulsa, Philbrook Museum, and St. John Medical Center. The Donald E. Pray Law Library at the University of Oklahoma, College of Law reflects the esteem with which Don was held by the legal and educational communities.
Don was a trusted advisor, a thoughtful leader, and a friend. His legacy endures not only in the institution he helped build, but also in the people and communities he quietly and faithfully served throughout his life.
We extend our heartfelt condolences to Don’s wife Barbara and family. We invite our clients, colleagues, and community to join us in remembering and honoring a life lived with purpose, humility, and profound generosity.
